How do I setup a garnishment withholding?
If you come across the need to setup an additional deduction to garnish (withhold money from) an employee's salary or wages for purposes such as paying child support or repaying debts. The amounts withheld from employees for court-ordered withholding are setup in TaxSlayer Payroll as an "Additional Deduction". To set up the additional withholding we have provided the following steps.
1-From the dashboard select "Employee" and click on "Add New". (If you are adding the additional withholding to an existing employee, click on the employee's name from the list and scroll down to "Add Additional Deductions" and complete steps 4 and 5)
2-Enter the employee's personal information then click on "Next".
3- Enter the employee's compensation. Select the employee pay type, enter the description, and pay amount (enter the default hours if it applies). Click on "Next".
4-Now complete all of the federal and state withholding information for the employee. Then click on Add Additional Deduction".
5- Select the deduction type, a description, the default withholding type and the amount. Once finish click "Update".
6- Continue through the on screen process until you are completely finished setting up the employee.
When you run your payroll, the garnishment deduction is calculated based on the information entered in the "Additional Deduction" section.
